A student has requested an accommodation for my class, what should I do?

To receive an accommodation, a student must present you with an accommodation letter from Disabilities Services. You should review the letter carefully and discuss the recommended accommodations with the student. The letter is the end result of a careful review by Disabilities Services. If you have concerns about any of the recommended accommodations, especially if you believe they affect essential learning outcomes, please contact Disabilities Services.

If the student does not have an accommodation letter, do not provide any accommodation that you would not provide to any other student in the class.

Applying principles of Universal Design will decrease the amount of changes you may need to make to accommodate specific students. It will also support students that may not be aware of their need for support. Learn more about these resources on the Disabilities Services MyMeredith page (requires login) and through the BrightSpace course, Library of Accessibility Resources (you are already enrolled in this).
