There are numerous ways that you can continue to grow in your role as a faculty member at Meredith, including participation in Professional Development Communities (PDCs), Scholarly Productivity Grants (SPGs), and on-campus professional development sessions at the start and end of each academic year. Professional Development Communities are small groups of faculty and sometimes staff who agree to meet and study something of interest to all in the group. These are arranged at the start of each semester through a meeting facilitated by the Director of Faculty Development. Ongoing PDCs include Creative Pedagogy, Peer Coaching, SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning), Academic Writing, Early Career Faculty, and New Faculty. Other PDCs can be proposed based on interest.
Faculty members may apply for a Scholarly Productivity Grant to support research and/or conference travel/presentation. There is typically a call for applications each semester with individual awards generally limited to no more than $1500.
The week before the start of each academic year faculty and staff participate in Faculty/Staff Planning week. Sessions vary each academic year. At the end of the spring semester there is a professional development opportunity called PIE (Pedagogy, Innovation, & Enhancement). This typically lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 days with sessions varying by interest and expressed need.
In addition to these opportunities provided through faculty development, Instructional Design and Academic Technology (IDAT) offer sessions to support faculty members in using technology resources and implementing technology to enhance pedagogy.
Schools and departments also offer development opportunities to faculty through travel grants and other, more discipline-centered opportunities.
