What are the specific elements I need to put on my syllabus?

From the Faculty Handbook, section 2.7

Complete syllabi are required for each class. Syllabi should contain the following basic elements that are specific to the course:

  • Course Name and Number
  • Instructor’s name, office location, and contact information including office hours
  • Course Description from Catalogue
  • Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes
  • Do the objectives and learning outcomes begin with a verb?
  • Are the objectives and learning outcomes measurable?
  • Honor Code Statement+
  • Textbook and other Required Items
  • A statement about course modality and any required access to technology (hardware and/or software)
  • Course Outline
  • Assignments
  • Grading Scale
  • Inclement Weather Policy+
  • Attendance Policy
  • Accessibility Statement+
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement+
  • Title IX Statement+

+Syllabus statements common to all academic units in the college can be found on the My Meredith portal. These include the Honor Code statement; the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity statement; the Sexual Misconduct/Title IX statement; and the Inclement Weather statement. Faculty are asked to create a link to this page on their Brightspace course pages under the Syllabus tab in Content.
