Faculty members are evaluated annually by their department head. The department head will consider the faculty member’s self-evaluation, professional development plan, student evaluations, classroom observation, as well as other information relevant to the role of the individual faculty member. Most of the evaluation will center on the Faculty Role Model (Faculty handbook section 4.8), which includes effective teaching, effective academic advising and mentoring, service, and professional activity. Faculty handbook section 4.2 describes the evaluation process.
Most faculty members are reviewed in the last semester of their third year by the department tenure and promotion committee (Faculty handbook section 4.3).
Tenure-track faculty apply for tenure and promotion based on the date stated in their contract (Faculty handbook section 4.4-5)
Student course/instructor evaluations are administered each fall and spring semester for all teaching faculty according to College policy. A standard evaluation form is used, but professors may elect to supplement this form. College-generated course evaluation reports are included in tenure and promotion portfolios.
